Verse of the Day:
John 3:30
John 3:30
30 He must become greater, I must become less.
As humans, we are by nature selfish. This goes back all the way to the creation story in which Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil because they thought the fruit looked yummy and it would be sweet to be all knowing like God. When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. (Genesis 3:6).
Today, we obviously aren’t put in this exact situation, but think of other tempting situations that God puts you in where you are able to choose either a gain for yourself or a gain for him. It is so easy to pick things that benefit us. Sometimes it’s so much easier to ignore someone being picked on in the hallway or sitting by themselves at lunch than to go and try to stand up for them or be their friend. It’s easier to go out with your friends and skip church than it is to tell them that you can’t hang out with them because you need to go.
So how do we live our lives making Christ greater and ourselves less? You chose God when it would be easier to chose something that would benefit yourself. You try to do everything for the glory of Him. I mean, we were put here TO do everything for the glory of Him! You live so everyone can see that God is the most important thing in your life.
The Simple Truth: It is easy to do things for our own selfish needs, but the reward of doing things for Him is so much greater.
Reflect: How can I make God a greater part of my life?
Apply: Next time you’re in a situation when you can chose something that benefits you or God, take a step back and think about who you want to be serving, Him or yourself.
Pray:
Sometimes singing and/or listening to a song is my favorite way to pray. Check out this song for the prayer today: Empty Me.
Peace, love & prayers-
